Sad to hear that Bob Monkhouse has finally lost his battle against cancer. I didn't realise that he was that poorly until I read the news in the paper. I first remember him on "The Golden Shot" as a kid on black and white TV, but apart from being an excellent game show host, he was also a fine Stand-up comedian. A few Xmas's ago, I was brought a video called "Bob Monkhouse Exposes himself." I have to say that I had reservations about this gift, but it is one of the best comic videos that I have ever seen and has been lent out to friends and family, all commenting on how good Bob is at stand - up. It's a sad loss to the British Nation that someone like Bob has passed on, but what makes me really mad is that he was only ever awarded the OBE, while Fergiescum is Knighted for Services to football. Bob did countless work for charity, and as far as I know, never claimed up to £90K in appearance fees for it either.
Bob has sent quite a few things to nippers local school for auctioning off, signed books, etc and on reading the comments on the BBC website was well thought of by the public and his peers in showbiz.

However, I have to say that next to our Glorious despot, his comedy pales into insignificance:

“I have heard all about the ‘Ellis Out’ brigade who have made their voices known in recent days,” he told the Birmingham Evening Mail.

“In my view, that has been instigated by certain people. To them, I can only say that there wasn’t anyone rushing forward to put money into the club when I did on two occasions. There was a small amount in 1968 and a bigger amount in 1982. Where were these people then?

“But I am a great believer in never retiring. I feel it is important to keep your brain active. I think you live a lot longer that way.”

 ..  HDE is still waiting for his award for his services to bullshit.
