Weekly Musings

Came back  from Spain this Monday after a good few days in the sun .Glad to see that we brought the weather with us. Benalmadena is a good place to visit if you have kids. As this was the start of the season, the place was not too busy either, so a good break all round. Missed the Villa Newcastle match, as I decided to lie by the pool instead - call me a lightweight, but I made the right decision I think. Did however, catch the Villa Youth home leg in one of the Hotel Bars that were showing Sky. Luke was transfixed watching the Villa from Spain and I had to try and explain to 2 old American women what he was watching. Took his picture and he ain't happy about it, as as I pressed the camera, the screen flicked over to the Old Duffer in the background as you can see. He has gone mad and wants it deleted. I thought it was better to save for posterity.

Wednesday night, had the pleasure to go and see the Casbah Club at the Robin2 in Bilston. Had a good chat with Dave Woodhall there, Villa and not Villa related - (Thanks for the insights Dave). What a great show. As you may know, I am a huge Big Country Fan and the sad death of Stuart Adamson looked as if this great mans music would be gone from the live scene for ever. I was a bit apprehensive. BC were the best live band ever period (IMO obviously) and after seeing them live over 20 times since 1983, the Casbah Club had a lot to live up to. However, a mix of BC classics reworked with Bruce Foxton adding his own style to the Butler Bass lines, Jam tunes, song by JJ Gilmour, the crowd and remarkably well by Bruce Foxton himself, along with some JJG and Silencers stuff, made the hour and half fly by. Perhaps live music is not dead in this country and with professional like these still on the circuit, then perhaps there is some hope. The Adamson spirit lives on.

Belated happy St Georges day to all for yesterday - good to see that the cross of Saint George has been re-claimed as a national symbol of the English people. The kids went to school with England tops on and the teachers all wore red roses - long may it continue.

Today is the wedding of the year - Mr IP Robathan, known to many of the H&V clan as Robobum is due to be betrothed today. I'm sure that the invites for Dave, Mac and and Ian R have been lost in the post. Perhaps you will have to ask me how the day went then. ;¬)
