who's the turkey?

Monday, December 23, 2002

All of the important stuff that needed saying about the Liverpool fiasco has been said so I'll confine myself to a quick note on the substitutions. Right move to go 4-3-3 and right to put the nearest we have to holding player (Kinsella, unfortunately) in the middle of the midfield 3. But why move Leonhardsen to right back? De la Cruz is pretty poor but at least he has some idea about playing there and was actually looking a bit happier as we pressed forward.

Chelsea was poor as we faded after a bright start. Ring any bells? What about the last time we played on a Saturday after an LC Wednesday night? When we fell away against Newcastle as the midfield vapourised in the second half? Chances are we'd have lost there (Chelsea) even if we had 'rested' players midweek but it's looking ominous with the Christmas Rush of games coming up that we seem to sag with just 2 games per week. How are we going to cope with 2 in the 3 days? - esp with Staunton (no great loss to be honest - just that we're so short of defenders) and Hendrie suspended for Villasboro.

By the same token -maybe we can benefit from Man City playing tonite and our weary few having an extra 2 days to recover before Boxing Day?
