Don't worry about which theme you pick now -- you can swap them about later or even edit the theme you picked and make your own which we may use too. We've even got a plug-in that will change the graphic text (like day by day). You can redesign these completely: if you can knock up a few graphics to replace the ones in the theme you've settled on or can edit a little bit of HTML you can build a site as complex as you like. All these themes are built through the web with the same access as you -- start with a plain one if you want to do that, but you don't have to. If you want to take a few and join them together we can show you nifty set ups, with shopping carts, plug-ins, private areas for intranets or private liaisons. There are new features being added everyday to this server software and now there are even outlines where you can control your site and link in with others. As well as controlling your mp3s.
But remember it's easy to use from day one. 6,500 sites spread over several services  Many used daily with tens of thousands of page views total and each day. Keep it simple, just add a few days weblogging to your site for a while. That's the habit that brought you here -- easy enough to edit it or quickly add to it several times a day. By default your set up is as a syndicated weblogger. Here's a few set ups: private, shared or managed; slashdot type news page.
There's a Manila newbies mailing list as well as a downloadable pdf (3.5megs) which has all the howtos from the Manila site. You can use this as a training manual.

The only reason we want it is to ensure we can contact you about your site and that the operation of your site will rely on an accurate and current email address. Really, you need to put a current, and frequently checked email address here for the smooth running of your site -- not ours! Your site will email you when new messages are posted and about other things and you'll need to send bulletins to your members and the return address needs to be accurate.
Your password will be emailed to you. Keep a copy of this email when it arrives -- especially if you are going to be accessing your site from different machines. Or, want to keep it locked or password protected by logging in and out.

If you want your own domain, first check to see if it available. Then buy it, and contact us. There is a charge for this DNS service. This is a demo service, but a spin off for us is the storage income -- that's if you want to pay one. You can always move your site to another commercial service later: Webloggers and there's Webwerks.co.nz. I'm positive there'll be more in Europe soon, if not already. The last thing we'd want to do is lock you in here. We've even developed a Dear john plugin that redirects after you move out -- no link rot.
