The Russians are coming

The Russians are coming: You're looking well... Are you really older than me? That's the problem being a plc. Anyone can own your football club. And in the "global game" that could mean literally anyone. You don't have to have an attachment to Aston, Birmingham, the UK, or even an interest in the game. Making money is really the only common denominator and making money, usually, costs us the fans. How far would you go to see "success" or that could be millions wasted on yet more "talent" who don't give a toss? Short term gain but in the long term?

"You're looking well..."

"I invented embalming fluid you know"

Not yet certain I want Russians running the club, even if they have trillions of roubles. It spells trouble, a few years down the line. Short term gain and all that. A few tanks in B6 might sort out the parking problems in Priory Road though.

Multi media

This week I have been mostly reading The Closed Circle by Jonathan Coe. Like a tight wad, I waited for this follow up to the Rotters' Club to come out in paperback. If anything, this is even better. It's set in Birmingham and London and catches up with the schoolfriends 30 years on, post 9/11 as opposed to the pub bombings. A good satire of New Labour and a couple of neat plot twists at the end.
