Well our player of the year from last season has decided that he'd love the chance to play Champions League football with a big club like Liverpool... so he does a 'Michael Owen' and takes a few steps backwards and joins what seems to be a very desperate state of affairs on Tyneside.
I think without Solano, last season would have been a disaster, he was the one player who you thought just might pull something out of the bag and turn a game à la Merson. But so far this season the noises he's been making have been less than supportive of the Villa cause. I doubt if his heart was ever properly in to playing for Villa, but then again, how many of the current squad could you say were full blooded Villans? I suppose in many cases, footballers are just like the majority of us, if a 'better' job comes along we'd probably take it if offered it, so why do we all feel hurt by Solano's lack of loyalty to Villa?
So, let's forget about Nobby blowing his own trumpet and concentrate on Villa's hopefully much-improved fortunes over the next few months.
Having James Milner and Eirik Bakke on board is going to help matters considerably, now with 8 in and 4 out, David O'Leary finally has HIS own squad.... can we please, please, please stop the 'we've got a small squad of an honest bunch of lads' mantra once and for all now David?
