Aston Villa 0-0 Everton 25.10.03

Yaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnn. Can you really believe Villa played 4-5-1 at home? I see DaveO prefers to call it 4-3-3, but by the sounds of it JPA was stuck up front with little support from PW and DV. Particularly DV. If packing midfield was a tactic to cover the inexperienced Dion at centre-back then I suppose it worked. Two clean sheets in a row. Great. Should have played the predicted formation, might have seen some real action then. The 15 seconds of highlights should be good on the Premiership tonight... see Wayne Rooney shoot...

result25-10-03:

Birmingham 0-0 Aston Villa 19.10.03

What did I say? Oh yeah, Villa would sneak a win and de la Cruz would be the one to bring the match to life. Well, at least there wasn't the repeated humiliation of last season. Got the line-up prediction spot-on again... are you reading this garbage DaveO???

result19-10-03:

Aston Villa 1-1 Bolton Wanderers 5.10.03

3-0? Way off the mark there (again). At least the team line-up prediction was spot on. Entertaining 2nd half despite Rob Stiles' efforts to leave his mark on the game.

result5-10-03:

Chelsea 1-0 Villa 27.9.03

I'll get me coat... Angel to be in top form prediction was way off the mark. He played well enough but didn't provide the finish for two or three guilt-edged chances... coulda been so different. And if he had put them away, Ranieiri's job would have been on the line. Funny old game...

Villa 2-1 Charlton 20.9.03

The predicted 2-0 didn't quite come off, thanks [in part] to Alpay '2 goals' Ozalan. At least the first of his 2 was a thumping volley at the right end... Good to see JLloyd on target too [predicted that last weekend!]. What happened to our Cancerian strike duo Allbäck/Vassell? Couldn't see them involved in the 2 mins of highlights on tv.

Starting XI: 20.9.03_team:

Man City 4-1 Villa 14.9.03

Astro said a draw : ( No-one could have forseen the turnaround in fortunes at half-time. Here's what was predicted: "We'll see the best of Tommy Hitz and JLloyd Samuel today, I reckon they'll both excel in a fast-paced free-flowing game, played fairly and without too many hold-ups. Expect a few goals and a particularly hectic start to the match. Plenty to get enthusiastic about then, but I'd say a hard fought draw is a likely outcome." Where was Hitz? He may as well have been on the bench. JLloyd wasn't much better. Only JPA came out with any credit today.

Villa 3-1 Less-ter 30.8.03

3 points in the bag [correctly predicted] as was JPA's bright game. Ok, so Astro said JPA would get the only goal of the game - he had to ruin it by getting 2! At least he was the only Villa player to score... Got the starting XI spot on too. Here's what was predicted: "Villa will outplay Leicester in terms of football, but I reckon will still find it hard to hit the back of the net. Angel is Villa's most likely to do so and should have a bright game. There is going to be a fair bit of indecisiveness at both ends causing a few scary moments in each penalty area, but I think at the end of the day, one goal will win this game and I reckon Angel will get it."

Arse 2-0 Villa 27.8.03

Got the scoreline spot on. Astro being realistic saw only an Arsenal win. No matter how well Villa played (according to 5 Live commentary) it just wasn't good enough. Switching to 4-5-1 made it difficult for the Gunners, but ultimately Villa were out classed in front of goal.... where it matters! De La Cruz had the predicted 'good' game, causing Arse problems, but no real cutting edge. 1 Point, 3 games, 17th position.

Villa 0-0 Liverpool 24.8.03

Predicted a Villa win... and it should've been, right? Astro proclaimed: "This will be a generally calm game, with the odd flashpots of aggression. Both sides may choose a methodical pattern of playing, there will be more of an emphasis from Villa and Liverpool of not conceding rather than going for all out attack. Having said that, I don't see a draw being the outcome, there will be plenty of goal mouth action. Gerrard is highly likely to be sent off, with Alpay being the centre of most skirmishes."

Well, Alpay didn't play, Gerrard should have been off for two trademark two-footed lunges (the second on Olof Mellberg being particularly nasty), there was plenty of goalmouth action, but no goals to show for it. All round good meaty performance from Villa though... promising stuff.

Portsmuff 2-1 Villa 16.8.03

Astro Villa was a little optimistic and predicted a Villa win. On last season's form, a defeat was to be expected, so a 1-3 result was maybe totally over and blindly optimistic! Ah well, was right about this though: "A highly frenetic affair, there is no way this'll be a bore draw. Plenty of energy being thrown into the game, particularly from Villa. Tempers may flare on a few occasions and the ref might be quite busy calming situations or waving his yellow cards around if necessary." 45 free kicks given, 4 yellow cards and Gareth Barry's red card for calling the linesman a 'f*cking c*nt'.
