There was an official offer made today for the takeover of Aston Villa Football Club. A consortium of businessmen, including Ray Ranson, a Bloonose defender (who I've never heard of coincidentally. Does that mean I'm young, or just thick?) offered a £30m deal. However, Ellis has dismissed this as he feels it's significantly undervalued the clubs worth.
The full statement to the London Stock Exchange this morning went like this....
"Following recent articles in the press, the Board of Aston Villa plc confirms that it has received an indicative proposal from certain parties, including Mr Ray Ranson, to acquire the entire issued share capital of the company.
"Having considered the proposal and consulted with the company's advisers, the Board's view is that it significantly undervalues Aston Villa and the proposal has been rejected."
So there you are then. All this talk of him going is all untrue. The market price does sound low. In the accounts published for 2002/2003, they had a balance sheet holding of £50.1m. Admittedly, we haven't done well this year, but better than last year, so I would guess that this would raise slightly in current terms. Thus, a low offer it is (esp with the share value going up 16p at the time of writing). Or was their plan to offer low, and then have a lot more capital to release to buy players? We'll never know, as at this point in time, there are no reports that the consortium will make an improved offer.
And wanting to buy the entire issued share capital? That means he'd have to buy mine as well, and I aint letting them go, even if they're only worth a fraction of what they were bought.
What is it with Villa and Bloonoses wanting to run it? Firstly Ellis, and now Ranson.
Can't they pick on their own club? Bastards.
