Crikey, a bit of a catch up needed I think.

Firstly, obviously, the result of the weekend. A crushing 4-2 win, with Olof getting on the score sheet again (always good, as he's in my Fantasy League team!).

But

once again, we can't hold a lead. We go a goal in front, and then we seem to struggle for a bit. Three times now in four games, we've managed to struggle in games after going in front. Is it just like a nosebleed situation? Crikey, we're winning. What do we do now?

However, unlike against the Baggies, when we couldn't raise the game in the second half, and we won't even bother about the Charlton game, we managed to come back at Newcastle, and get a deserved win.

Yes we were lucky, but so what! We deserve the rub of the green sometimes, and Saturday it was just our turn. I thought Tommy should have gone. There wasn't blatant intent, but the laws of the game mean that really, he should have got a red instead of just a yellow.

So a big hearty congratulations to the lads. Let's have more performances like that when we go 1-0 up please (but next time, don't ship any goals)

And then, of course, it was all over for Bobby. To be honest, I feel a bit sorry for him. But as football proves time and time again, there seems to be no morals or ethics sometimes. Telling the guy at the start of the season it would be his last was harsh. Sacking him after four games was similarly a harsh thing to do. But that's football bosses. They conveniently forget that last year Newcastle couldn't even buy a win - their first coming in October, yet they still managed to finish 5th. I get the feeling that there must be a nasty undercurrent at St James' at the moment

It just seems too much of a coincidence that the last manager to drop Shearer was also sacked the following week....

So who's now being linked with the Newcastle job as Big Sam, Steve Bruce, Shearer, and Steve McClaren have ruled themselves out? Our very own DOL. Well, they can sod off. He's under a large contract here, and quite happy thank you very much. And he's got a good set of players. What have Newcastle got to offer? Europe, cash to spend, Kieron Dyer and his old mate Lee Bowyer?

From what I can see, the only reason he's being linked is because he still lives in Harrogate, therefore he wants to return up North.

Got to love the press haven't you?

Another manager out on his arse is Paul Sturrock. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Southampton move heaven and earth to get him last season while he was chasing promotion with Plymouth? Surely if they wanted him that much, they couldn't have changed their mind that quickly? But wait, who's that on the horizon looking at taking his place? Sir Clive Woodward no less.

Now, I know I'm not the only one to find this a bit weird. The most successful English rugby coach wants to become a footie manager. I know people change careers in their lives, and on the face of it, it doesn't seem too much of a sidestep for him - management is the art of managing people - his coaches can do the rest really. I just get the feeling that this is a headline grabber for both of them.

However, the pantomime at Twickenham this week has been quite funny. Firstly the captain goes, and then two days later, the manager goes. But he doesn't. But he wants to. But he doesn't know.

Pillock. Quit if you want to. Don't stay there and haggle about money. You quit your job because you don't want to stay there.

And talking about the Captain of the rugby team, I'm off to a swanky do tonight to be schmoozed by recruitment agents. The guest speaker was meant to be Lawrence Dallaglio. But then he went and quit as captain on Monday, so they've had to quickly replace him with Jason Leonard. How should be just as good. The trouble is, we've all submitted questions for Lawrence, so what are they going to do now? Do we stick with them, and ask Jason a load of questions about being England captain (when he has never been), playing for Wasps (when Jason played for Harlequins), and why Wasps always seem to beat Gloucester (my bosses question!), or do we have to make up new ones, that Jason hasn't had time to prepare for?

At least mine will stay the same - Do you like broccoli?

Due to booze intake tonight, and being at a wedding tomorrow, these questions will be answered next week!
