You see what happens when I get back into the country? Bloody typical.
But before we get to that debacle last night, let's recap.
I've been on my hols. And a very nice time was had by all. Cyprus is just lovely, and I implore anyone to go and not like it. We were on the south coast in a small village called Pissouri - two seconds from the sea. The best of it was, it hasn't been spoiled by the tourist developements. There was just our apartments, and a hotel and spa resort, and that was it. If you wanted excitement, Limmasol was a short drive away one way, and Paphos the other; and to chill you stayed where you were.
The only slightly weird thing about it was the fact it was a family holiday. The reason for being out the was that my missus's Dad was getting remarried out there, so I had to deal with all the in-laws, most of who I'd never met before. But I coped, and at the end of the holiday had found myself being accepted as part of the family too. Which always helps if we ever think about getting hitched.
As a result, the football was quite good while I was away too. England played two and won two. Convincing against Wales, and woeful against Azerbaijan. But six points is six points.
Closer to home, the Arsenal game doesn't count, as we all expected to lose that. However, the manner of defeat was quite pitiful. It was quite weird watching Greek TV with Sky commentary drinking Keo, the local brew, but I had to do it. UDLC had an awful game. At fault for a couple of the goals, and his general positioning was questionable. Mccann came out with credit, and so did Postma really, even though he let in three, he made some good saves too.
Fulham, we won. Not a brilliant game from what I can tell from the other blogs, but a win, a clean sheet, and a Nobby Solano goal is all that's really needed.
Which brings us to last night. Part of me thinks "why should I bother" but I feel I need to explode. That was a full first team out there last night, but from what I heard on the radio, Burnley just outclassed us all over the park. The biggest disappointment is that we can usually do so well in the League Cup. I really thought that we could follow up last season's performance with another good run this year. Alas, it was not meant to be. But I'm with O'Leary in slamming the lack of positives taken from the game.
God, I need a holiday!

John Peel sadly passed away yesterday. As with most famous people, I didn't know him personally, and didn't ever meet him, but as I listenned to him on Radio 1, I feel I did know him quite well. Always funny, even when he didn't mean to be, the man oozed class.
People last night and this morning have been banding around the moniker "Legend" when describing him. Somethimes this is used all too frequently, but for Mr Peel, it sums him up a treat.
Rest In Peace John.
