Villa Reserves

from Gareth Edwards.

Boaz Myhill
Having seen Boaz play a few games now its fair to say that  he looks a really good prospect. He comands his area well and is a very vocal presence behind the defence. The Schmeichel effect is already starting  to show at Villa with the young keeper charging to the edge of his penalty  area to distribute quickly. Shot stopping is very, very good.....expect to see more of Boaz.

Gavin Melaugh
A versatile player who gets on with the job with very little fuss. Plays right back or in the midfield.

Danny Jackman
If you want an image then visualize Alan Wright with hair. Part of last years youth team Danny is a wholehearted defender who is getting a good run at left back in the reserves. Likes to get forward and seems to be around the ball all the time.

JLloyd Samuel
Obviously Samuel has had a few opportunities in the first team, currently he is the 'experienced' head at the back in the reserves. Still looks an excellent prospect and importantly he can defend. Looks equally calm and composed at centre half or left back. Expect to see him  in the 1st team squad a lot more this year. Lets hope having Staunton ahead  of him in the queue won't prevent him getting a chance.

Jon Bewers
Another to have sampled first team action, very briefly. Bewers plays either centre half or right back. Bewers will expect to get  a shout at first team squad level this season. Would make an excellent deputy to Delaney at right back, he has pace, can defend and has attacking inclinations, if he gets in Delaney might struggle to regain his place.

Danny Haynes
Haynes was playing regularly last season as a centre half  but he has started this season in centre midfield. A stocky wholehearted performer.

Stephen Cooke
Cookie is a player full of skills and tricks, can play anywhere in the middle of the park or up front. With the ball at his feet he is able to go past players and create chances for himself and his team mates. Still growing and is a little on the frail side for the first team squad yet. Might well be a late developer as he builds up his strength.

Jay Smith
Another who is on the small side, plays in the centre of midfield or wide on the right. Good distributor of the ball who rarely stands out but does a good job. Started this season with an eye for goal.

Thomas Hitzlsperger
When he first joined we all thought he would be a first team regular very quickly, like Gareth Barry the club are still trying to find his best position, is it left back, left midfield or centre midfield. A composed player, good in the air with a left foot to die for. Very, very powerful from set pieces.

Richard Walker
Walker is not a bad player with the ball at his feat, however pace wise he is very much lacking. Has proved on his loan spells that he will make a very decent Nationwide footballer, for his sake its  a shame his deal at Blackpool wasnt made permanent. Will continue to plug away but he is slipping further down the pecking order.

Stefan Moore
A very exciting prospect who will benefit from Villa having more competition up front for the first team. Some players need to be protected from the Premiership a bit and Stefan is one of those, he has pace, strength and is an excellent finisher. Hopefully he will make the squad a few times and maybe get a couple of substitute appearances this season but no more. Of all the forward players Stefan is the one to watch....

Michael Standing
Hands up all those that know what is happening with Michael ?? is currently out of contract but he never left the club in the summer. A good central midfielder who has good close control and passes neatly. Hopefully the club will sign him up again and send him out on loan to get some first team experience, it could be the making of him.

John McGrath
A quick left back who could be one of the biggest losers  from Villa changing from the wing back system. Another who needs to find his best position, this season will be the one where he hopes to make a propr breakthrough.

David Berks
Played a few games last season and looked a very powerful  and direct wide player. When running at defenders he was causing pandemonium, will hope to continue that this season.
